For the past 20 over years, Mr. Choo has travelled all over China and studied under many Masters, Experts, and Professors on TCM Diagnosis, which is one of the most important subjects in TCM study. He was elected as the Vice Chairman of TCM Diagnosis Specialty Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, one of the most authoritative TCM organizations in the world.

朱立信医师在过去20多年跟随许多导师、专家、教授门下学习，尤其下许多苦功在中医诊断学方面。朱医师认为，现代医师不能只光靠看化验表、Ｘ光，而更需要进一步掌握中医的临床诊断才能把医疗工作做好。2014年6月，朱医师被委任为世界中医药学会联合会中医诊断学专业委员副会长，他也是唯一被入选的新加坡中医专家。

China was one of first countries to have a medical culture. In comparison with Western medicine, the Chinese method takes a far different approach. With a history of 5,000 years, it has formed a deep and immense knowledge of medical science, theory, diagnostic methods, prescriptions and cures.

In TCM, external symptoms are the manifestation of internal imbalances. Hence, a TCM physician assesses one’s state of health by analyzing external symptoms displayed to seek evidence of internal problems. Unique diagnostic methods are used to collect and analyze clinical information.

When a disease occurs, there must be its abnormal outward manifestations from which the pathological changes may be inferred.

The four basic diagnostic methods examine and learn about the pathological conditions from different angle and aspect and find out the etiology and pathogenesis. The four methods are related to and supplement one another. They cannot be separated from one another, each having its specific function that cannot be substituted for the others. In clinical practice, only when the four techniques are organically combined can a disease be understood all-sidedly. Thus, a correct diagnosis can be made.

The four basic diagnostic methods:

Inspection
Inspection is one kind of examining method which is applied to knowing the condition of disease by means of doctor’s visual sense to look over the vitality, color, figure, posture of patient’s whole or partial body and the changes of the figuration, color, texture and quality of the patient’s discharges.

Auscultation-olfaction
Auscultation is to find the abnormal sound of speech, respiration and cough etc. by means of auditognosis (hearing). Olfaction is to know the smell of the patient’s body, the secretion and excreta by means of osphresis (smelling).

Interrogation
Interrogation is to know the onset, development, treatment, present symptoms and other information of disease by questioning patient or the accompanying people for diagnosis.

Palpation
Palpation includes pulse examination and body pressing-touching. They are diagnostic methods that doctor uses his tactile sensation of fingers and palm to touch patient’s body to get diagnostic data. Pulse examination is to feel the pulse while body pressing-touching is to touch and press the different parts of patient’s body such as skin, hands and feet, chest and abdomen and so on.

Beside applying the four basic diagnostic methods, there are still other few dozen even to a hundred of TCM diagnostic methods, which our founder, Choo Led Sin get into deep study of it.
